"A great class for beginners or someone looking to de-stress at the end of the work week!"

Join us for 6 weeks of Trauma Sensitive Yoga . Trauma Sensitive Yoga is designed for those who have experienced trauma. For many, the impacts of trauma will leave lasting effects such as depression, anxiety, stress, irritability, dissociation, or Post traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Trauma Sensitive Yoga includes special attention to language, postures, breath-work, and assists. Students will learn ways to calm and ground the body, to connect with their experiences in the present moment, and to bring a friendly awareness to the body and the mind.

Trauma Sensitive Yoga is slow and gentle. You don’t need to have any previous experience and you are invited to make choices throughout the class about when you wish to challenge yourself and when you wish to be gentler with yourself. Each pose is taught from beginning to end. The instructor will help you find a suitable alternative if you find yourself feeling overwhelmed during class. If you have some experience with yoga you will also find that many variations of each pose are offered so that you can decide how gentle, or how challenging you would like to make your practice.

The structure of each class is as follows:

  • Class opens with a grounding and calming exercise.

  • We then practice a variety of sitting, standing, and supported poses.

  • We will follow the movement portion of the class with a guided relaxation to complete the class.

Wear clothes in which you are comfortable and bring layers, if you like, so you can adjust if you are too warm or too cold. There are no hands-on assists in the class. Each person has their own mat and this is your personal space to practice. Participants in this class is confidential; your privacy is important to us. This class is gender neutral; all are welcome. Class size ranges from 5-12 participants so that everyone can have plenty of space.

The instructor will be available after class should you feel the need to debrief or ask questions.
