Trauma Sensitive Yoga - In Studio & Online

with Jennifer Volk Ph.D., C. Psych., CYA 500 RYT

Having experienced something traumatic is pretty common, in fact research tells us that 90% of us will encounter some kind of trauma in our lives.

For many of us, experiencing something traumatic will have some lasting effects on the way we think and feel, and on our physical health and our relationship with our body. Trauma Sensitive Yoga is tailored to help you work with these effects and includes special attention to language, postures, breath-work, and there are no hands-on assists.

Students will learn ways to calm and ground the body, to connect with their experience in the present moment, and to bring a friendly awareness to the body and the mind.

Trauma Sensitive Yoga is slow and gentle. You don’t need previous yoga experience and you are invited to make choices throughout the class about when to challenge yourself and when to be gentle with yourself. The instructor will help you find a suitable alternative if you feel overwhelmed during class.

Participation in this class is confidential. This class is gender neutral; all are welcome.

Class size ranges from 5-10 participants so that everyone has plenty of space.

“I like that the class is relaxing and gives you time to slow down and focus on your body. Jennifer is a great instructor. She has a calming presence, and isn't too serious or intimidating. I also appreciate that the exercises are presented without any spiritual or metaphysical claims.”
